“Exploring New Worlds” was the theme of the June 2019 show at the Lawrence Street Gallery.
The show consisted of works by me and Maureen Cassidy Keast at the Lawrence Street Gallery in Ferndale, Michigan, during the month of June 2019. In this show, our third two-woman exhibit, we presented the newest creations in our art worlds exploring new materials, techniques, media, and styles building on our past strengths.
In our first show, we celebrated “Our Mothers’ Worlds.” I used mixed-media collage extensively to trace the changes in the role of women during my mother’s one-hundred-year lifetime. Maureen explored her mother’s love of gardening with mixed-media floral paintings. In our second show, “Play is the Thing,” we focused on play in its various meanings. I incorporated mixed media collage but also worked in printmaking, acrylic, and assemblages, and Maureen created playful acrylic portraits of animals as well as ceramic pieces.
In our new show, I exhibited new work I have done as I explored large abstract paintings and encaustics. Though I have not abandoned printmaking, collage, or assemblage, in the new show I expanded these methods in new directions. Maureen exhibited her new water media works including alcohol inks on ceramic tiles, Plexiglas paintings, Masa paper painting, metal leaf on canvas, palette knife painting on her sculptures and tiles, and poured paintings.
The new show represented exciting new directions for us.
The show ran from June 5th through the 29th, 2019. The opening reception was Friday, June 7th, from 6-9 pm, and the mid-month reception was Sunday, June 16th, 2-5 pm. The Lawrence Street Gallery is located at 22620 Woodward, Ferndale MI.
